The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
